Photographer Tobias shot this magnificent photo of the spectacular landscape on the San Juan Skyway in Colorado. The San Juan Skyway is a scenic byway in Colorado. While freeways and highways are the main roads, byways are the side roads. Scenic byways are byways recommended due to their scenery. The San Juan Skyway is a 236 mile loop (379 km) in the state of Colorado, running throuh the heart of the San Juan Mountains.
The San Juan Skyway starts in Durango. Along the 236 mile loop the byway passes the entrance to Mesa Verde National Park, goes into the San Juan National Forest, crosses Lizard Head Pass at an elevation of 10,222 ft (3116 m) and goes into Uncompahgre National Forest. Continue on the byway and you will go past the Ophir Loop of the Rio Grande Southern Railroad and down to Placerville. The amazing scenery and historical spots continue on this byway, a beautiful scenic tour through the high mountain beauty of Colorado.
